Can an RO system be installed on well water?

Yes, but test the well water first. Sediment, iron, manganese, hardness, sulfur, or microorganisms can clog or damage an RO system if they are not addressed before the water reaches the membrane. The RO unit may need sediment filtration, softening, iron treatment, or another form of pretreatment. RO also should not be treated as a substitute for proper well disinfection when bacteria or other microorganisms are present.
