Northport was originally known as “Great Cow Harbor” in the 17th century because the area’s settlers used the protected harbor and surrounding land for grazing cattle. The name was officially changed to Northport in 1837.
To get to the airport The nearest major airport is Long Island MacArthur Airport (ISP). From Northport, take local roads south to the Sagtikos Parkway or Sunken Meadow Parkway south. The drive is approximately 30-40 minutes.
